Things to consider during blowout season.

Tis the season of blowouts… but why is this the season of blowouts?

Think about it, we get excited about the cooler months for fashion, pumpkin everything (for those of you who love that) and blowouts. You know, it’s not so hot anymore and your blowout will last longer…at least that is the general idea.

But are why do we think that? Is it true?

For me the short answer is yes. However, there is much more that goes into it. This is the time of year to “Winterize your hair” for the cooler months for sure.

Even though this is the season we love to let the silkiness of our tresses bounce in the wind, consider these points as to why your hair lasts longer but can potentially be ruined as well as tips to stretch your look until your next salon visit or switch up your look for your next holiday event.

The points:

  1. Cooler weather does equal less heat, so you are less likely to sweat out your hair. This does not mean that you cannot sweat it out in other ways. Always be mindful of your body temperature.
  2. Just because it’s cooler outside doesn’t mean it’s less humid. Some places, like Cleveland, OH for example have the highest humidity in the winter months. Humidity is an adversary of the blowout!
  3. Improper hair care between visits to the salon can also destroy the hairstyle if you are not careful. Example: not securing the hair properly before bed can mess up your style. Some of us struggle to sleep cute and that’s ok but take the proper precautions if you know that is a weak area for you.
  4. Lack of a routine will also cause issues: example – you haven’t had a trim all year and get a blowout. The ends of your hair are split and damaged therefore can cause tangling, breakage and frizz making your blowout not look its best.

Here are a few additional tips to help you maintain that beautiful blowout of yours:

  1. Consider pin curls, rollers or bantu knots at night to maintain the blowout. When it’s released in the morning (once you’ve cooled down after showering) you can have body and curls.
  2. Don’t want that curl? Wrap your hair smoothly to give it a slight bend… remember how we wrapped in the doobie era?
